Donor Acceptor Cyclopropanes in Organic Synthesis

Over the last two decades, a renaissance has been witnessed in the research field of donor-acceptor (DA) cyclopropanes. Among all the subclasses of DA cyclopropanes, DA cyclopropanes with an amino group as donor (DA aminocyclopropanes) have drawn particular interest because of the significance of nitrogen-containing functional groups in bioactive compounds. In this chapter, the synthesis of DA aminocyclopropanes is introduced briefly, followed by an in-depth description of their synthetic applications in ring-opening reactions and formal cycloadditions. Asymmetric synthesis involving DA aminocyclopropanes is also discussed, including in particular asymmetric cyclopropanation, enantioselective dearomatization, and desymmetrization processes.
