Exploration of 3D printing and injection molding techniques for the realization of deformable parts

Sobhie, Jad
June 11, 2021

The aim of this report is to go over the work done to streamline the manufacturing process of the deformable parts needed to build the soles of a wearable device meant to reduce the plantar pressure for diabetic patients and prevent amputations. While the project started as a general exploration of the possible solutions, the latter half of it focused primarily on the de-formable cushion, as it was deemed the most problematic part to manufacture and was thus prioritized. The report will be divided into four main parts: A small introduction quickly going over the aim of the project and the initial state of things, then an overview of the theoretical part which focuses on all the research done in the first half of the project followed by the practical part focusing on molding a usable cushion and ending on a general summary of the work and evaluation.
