Study of district heating potential in power plants with CO2 capture

Boesinger, Jacques
2014

A thermo-economic and environomic analysis for the integration of district heating in several power plants using carbon capture and sequestration is done. Variable district heating temperatures have been studied by evaluating the energetic and economic performance compared to the previous systems. The study is ended by a sensitivity analysis, which allows one to assess the importance of each parameter. The results have given great improve in the overall efficiencies (up to 20%), especially when substitutions are considered. The costs are slightly increased by the implementation of district heating, but are rapidly balanced by his benefit. No big improve of the carbon performances without substitution, but these performances where already really good (89% capture). Therefore one has always to keep in mind the targeted goals in order to set the right objective function.
