Asymmetric syntheses of (-)-deoxoprosophylline from chiral L-N,N-dibenzyl serine (TBDMS) aldehyde is reported. A highly diastereoselective intramolecular reductive amination of ω-oxo amino diol is a key step of the present synthesis. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
