A three-component reaction of an alpha ,alpha -disubstituted alpha -isocyanoacetamide, an aldehyde and an amino alc. afforded 5-iminooxazolines, which, upon sapon., cyclized under acidic conditions to provide the macrocyclodepsipeptides in good overall yields. [on SciFinder (R)]
