Morphé (AtoM) is the online platform dedicated to managing, describing and enhancing the value of documents, hosting inventories of their holdings and collections that are freely accessible online. Based on the AtoM (Access to Memory) open source web application, Morphé offers a systematic structuring of archival descriptions and facilitates access to documents. Designed to meet the needs of researchers, professionals and the general public, this platform offers enhanced tools for in-depth and intuitive exploration of archives. Developed by Artefactual Systems with the support of the International Council on Archives (ICA), AtoM was installed and configured by ENAC-IT to meet the specific requirements of Acm.

Morphé (AtoM) ensures compliance with international archival standards by using ICA standards such as ISAD(G), ISAAR(CPF), ISDIAH and ISDF to structure information in a hierarchical and consistent manner. This conformance ensures that records descriptions, authority records, records service descriptions and records creator functions are all organised according to internationally recognised standards. The system can also adapt to other descriptive standards such as RAD, DACS, Dublin Core and MODS.

Morphé (AtoM) supports several standard formats for importing and exporting data:

  • EAD-XML (Encoded Archival Description): an XML-based standard for encoding archival finding aids, maintained by the Society of American Archivists in partnership with the Library of Congress. It conforms to the recommendations of the ISAD(G) standard.
  • EAC-CPF (Encoded Archival Context - Corporate Bodies, Persons and Families): a document type definition dedicated to corporate bodies, persons and families associated with archives, written in XML and conforming to the recommendations of the ISAAR standard.
  • CSV (Comma-Separated Values): an open text format representing tabular data.
  • SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organisation System): A W3C recommendation for representing document thesauri, classifications or other types of controlled vocabulary.

As a web application, Morphé provides online access to descriptions of holdings and collections at different levels, whether by authority record, locality or other relevant criteria. Users can search independently by entering keywords in a search bar to quickly obtain relevant results. Alternatively, advanced search allows users to specify more precise criteria such as title, date, creator or level of description. Finally, contextual search allows users to navigate through the hierarchical structure of documents, providing an overview of how the collections are organised and making it easier to understand the relationships between different documents.
