Floodnet, design and throughput
1984
6th European Conference on Electrotechnics - EUROCON 84. Computers in Communication and Control
The author discusses a newly introduced local area network concept that provides a very interesting alternative to the bus and ring networks. He proposes a new type of node that can be integrated into a meshed configuration. This node is composed of several input-output ports that can be internally interconnected in a configuration that is determined by the signal arrivals. This meshed network is referred to under the generic name of Floodnet. The author describes two possible designs for the node: a synchronous and an asynchronous one. He derives an analytical figure that gives an approximation of the achievable throughput and the transmission delay
