Nucleophilic ligand exchange by phosphoranes
The org. groups of pentaorganylphosphorus compds. were found to undergo nucleophilic exchange with organolithium reagents. If an ethereal soln. of pentaphenylphosphorus is treated at room temp. with, e.g., 5 equivs. p-tolyllithium, the tetraarylphosphonium salts obtained by subsequent action of acids shows the ir bands of a tolyl group.
