Heteronuclear coherence transfer over a range of coupling constants. A broadband-INEPT experiment

A procedure is described whereby the performance of NMR pulse expts. which use fixed free precession periods with durations that should be matched to the reciprocal of a scalar, dipolar, or quadrupolar coupling const. or a resonance offset can be made less sensitive to the presence of a range of coupling consts. or offsets. The INEPT expt. is discussed which uses fixed periods of free precession with durations that should ideally be chosen in proportion to the reciprocal of the heteronuclear scalar coupling const. By considering an analogy with known composite pulses designed to compensate for radiofrequency field inhomogeneity DB1, a new exptl. is derived, called "broadband-INEPT", which is effective over a wider range of coupling consts. This new method has a sensitivity advantage over the normal INEPT sequence in a variety of applications. [on SciFinder (R)]
