Abstract

Biorefineries are renowned as an integrative concept that merges essential technologies between the economically feasible biogenic raw material and final products. There is an aggregating trend toward the use of easily available, cheap, and renewable biomass in the production of several chemicals in bulk quantities in different biorefineries. A wide variety of enzymes from the microbial cells attained much more important in the biorefineries to convert biomass into final products. Most of the processes involved in biorefineries necessitate thermostable enzymes for effective substrate solubility, high transfer rate, together with the lowered risk of contamination. The thermostable enzymes can be beneficial as industrial catalysts since they can able to tolerate the harsh conditions during the industrial production processing. Here, we discuss the potential applications of different enzymes used in biorefinery systems.
