Due to the enormous volumes produced the production of concrete accounts for around 5-10% of man-made CO2 emissions. Consideration of possible routes to reduce this environmental impact indicates that the use of calcined clays in as supplementary cementitious materials in cement and concrete has by far the largest potential.
