How lifelong perceptual learning shapes perception

We examined the correlations between several tasks that are traditionally though to probe low-level visual mechanisms. Surprisingly, we found only 4 out of a possible 15 correlations to be statistically significant. A power analysis revealed that this result was not due to a lack of power. Our results suggest that everyday experience shapes perception in a task-specific way.
