Bromine nitrogen oxide (BrNO) - thermodynamic properties, the ultraviolet/vis spectrum, and the kinetics of its formation
1977
Abstract
The equil. Br2(g) + 2NO(g) .dblarw. 2BrNO(g) was studied at 275-363 K. Third-law calcns. lead to DH Deg298(1) = -11.50 +- 0.17 kcal/mol, from which DH Degf298(BrNO, g) = 19.52 +- 0.24 kcal/mol and D Deg0(Br-NO) = 27.90 +- 0.30 kcal/mol. Absorption bands of BrNO in the UV with e (lmax = 215 nm) = 1.84 +- 0.17 * 104L/mol-cm and in the red with e (lmax = 708 nm) 7.7 +- 1.9
