Experimental determination of the oscillator strength of the 2160 A band of the free methyl radical and a spectroscopic measurement of the combination rate
The f-value of the 2160-.ANG. band of the free Me radical was detd. exptl. as (1.2 +- 0.2) * 10-2. The rate coeff. for combination is (2.43 +- 0.24) * 1013 cm3/mole-sec at 293 DegK. Me radicals were generated by the flash photolysis of small partial pressures of both Me2Hg and azomethane with Ar added to 100 torr in all expts.
