27Th International Cocoa Beach Conference On Advanced Ceramics And Composites: A

Three-dimensional (3D) numerical simulations are performed to investigate the mechanical properties of ceramics under impact compressive loading. A microcracking model considering the stochastic distribution of internal defects in ceramics is developed. The deformation and failure process of the ceramic specimen is simulated. Calculation results show that specimen strength measured by the output bar increases slightly with the strain rate, but rapidly with the lateral confining pressure.
