Résumé

Friction is an atomistic phenomena occurring between sliding surfaces and involves mechanisms influenced by lattice vibrations, asperities, heat fluxes, long range elasticity, plasticity. Thermal transfer is one such process contributing toward the complexity involved during frictional contact. Although it has been studied that plastic deformations and frictional forces are the cause of heat generation , the influence of heat transfer on frictional energy dissipation and on the friction coefficient is not clearly understood. The main motivation behind this work is to shed light on understanding the relation between energy dissipation in the form of heat with friction.
