This article reports on the application and calibration of a fully disaggregate (agent-based) transport simulation for the metropolitan area of Zurich. The application of a novel calibration technique yields cross-validation results that are competitive with any state-of-the-art four-step model. The added value of the proposed modeling/calibration approach is that the transport simulation equilibrates not only route choice but all-day travel behavior, which is in its entirety calibrated from traffic counts.
