The kinetic properties of the Me methacrylate (MMA) polymn. at pilot scale for a given temp. range (130-170 Deg) were detd. by differential scanning calorimetry and batch expts. reflecting initiation by MMA peroxides, depropagation of the living chains as well as high temp. gel effect. All different aspects were included in a general model for the description of the continuous process, allowing the prediction of conversion evolution and mol. wt. distributions. The calcd. data were compared with that from the pilot process and verified.
