Indoor Air Quality Management
1991
One can observe a growing awareness, also outside the circle of experts, of the overriding importance of comfort in buildings; be it visual, thermal or acoustic comfort or comfort related to indoor air quality. This awareness has been intensified by the diagnosis of the sick building syndrome in some buildings, resulting sometimes in abandoning and even destructing the building. A recent salient example is the Berlaymont building in Brussels; headquarters of the Commisison of the European Communities, which will be demolished partly because it does not meet the comfort and safety standards for a modern office building.
