Biomechanical evaluation of an artificial bone scaffold in revision total hip arthroplasty
The Orthopedic Research Laboratory at Radboud University Nijmegen (Prof. Nico Verdonschot) has developed a surgical technique based on bone graft impaction in case of revision total hip arthroplasty. During this development, in vitro mechanical tests have been performed and validated allowing to test other materials in the context of acetabulum bone filling. The goal of the project will then to test the scaffold developed at Lausanne using the biomechanical approach available at Nijmegen. In parallel, a FEM study, initiated at Lausanne, will be performed to evaluate the stress distribution in the scaffold for a situation mimicking the bone filling in the acetabulum.
