The collaborations between universities and companies is a useful mechanism for the improvement of the technical performance of companies and, furthermore, for funding research in the universities. An example of transnational collaboration between EDF, EPFL and the university of Bologna, is presented here. This example points out that despite cultural differences of each country and different methods for working the results of the collaboration are positive for each partner
