This article examines the basis of Vladimir Putin's course on the direct inheritance by the current state of all former political forms, ignoring the fact that the Russian Federation is only one of fifteen formally equal republics within the Soviet system. In the idea of the historical continuity of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union, and the Russian Federation are highlighted by three important dimensions or layers: 1) political and legal; 2) social; 3) cultural, which often comes to the fore.
