New catalysts for the dehydrogenation of methanol to water-free formaldehyde

1988
Proceedings 9th International Congress on Catalysis

Some Na compds. are selective catalysts for dehydrogenation of MeOH to HCHO, stable under high temps., and not reduced by H which is formed. They undergo some deactivation due to coking, but burning the coke easily returns the catalyst to its initial activity. Catalyst performance can be improved by addn. of In, leading to selectivities ?70% and .apprx.50% yield of HCHO. [on SciFinder (R)]
