The Swiss Patriciates: A Model Case for Sustainable Development Goals’ Implementation
This work examines the Swiss Patriciates as an exemplary case of institutional devices suited for tackling international policy priorities in modern times; with a particular focus on the field of sustainability. We explore their historical origins, organisational features, and socio-political functions, and outline their main responsibilities, duties, and activities. We further examine their potential contribution to current global policy by unveiling the transferable character of their original roles. In particular, we highlight their territoriality, indigenous ethos, cohesive elements, identitarian sense, and environmental attention as the main features and powerful drivers of better and more effective SDGs policy. Finally, we conclude by discussing some implications and policy suggestions.
