Simulation of Squeeze Film Effect

Borer, Daniel
2010

Nowadays interfaces between user and machines are principally based on visual informations. They use primarily displays to transfer informations from the machine to the user. However humans have 5 senses and all of them are used to interact with the environment. Why shouldn't we use them to interact with machines? In this work the touch sense is further discussed in order to create an interface between user and machine based on haptic information return. The future interface is a 5x5 cm surface equipped with several piezoelectric components. They are actuated in a standing wave actuation generated by alternating the polarization of the piezoelectric components and actuating them with a sinusoidal voltage.
