Morphological and DNA barcoding analysis identify a new species in the Afrotropical genus Hypselogenia Burmeister, 1840. Hypselogenia hassoni sp. nov. is described from the Cuanza Sul Province of Angola. The new species belongs to the Hypselogenia geotrupina group and can be distinguished from both Hypselogenia geotrupina Billberg, 1817 and Hypselogenia billbergii Thomson, 1878 by a combination of external characters.
