The authors present a new method of forecasting the short-term maximum load on an electrical network based on the Kohonen neural network, using data on the Western Swiss power network for 1984 and 1985. After a brief retrospective overview of the work carried out in this field, the new method is explained in detail. The results obtained with the method proposed are compared with those yielded by a simple classic method
