In a special regime, we are able to derive a mapping which belongs to the class of Fermi accelarator systems. These systems exhibit chaotic behaviours. Therefore, the chaos observed in numerical calculations of gearbox systems is understood from a theoretical point of view. © 1988.On the origin of chaos in gearbox modelstext::journal::journal article::research article
