Many workers have noticed that α variants are frequently situated at the grain boundary between β grains that share a common {1 1 0}β plane, but up to now such coincidence on the β grains could not be fully clarified. By careful examination of electron backscatter diffraction data published in literature, it has been established that the adjacent β grains are actually β variants inherited from the α → β transition. © 2008 Acta Materialia Inc.Agricultural productsAlloysCrystal growthEBSDGrain (agricultural product)Grain boundariesImplants (surgical)Metal analysisMetalsMicrofluidicsOperatorPhase transitionTitaniumTitanium alloysVariant selectionImportance of the α → β transformation in the variant selection mechanisms of thermomechanically processed titanium alloystext::journal::journal article::research article
