K alkoxides enhance the reactivity of organolithium compds. even more than polar ethers. While in 1,2-dimethoxyethane PhLi can lithiate triarylmethanes, diarylmethanes, and furan; BuLi will, in the presence of KOBu-tert, even metallate C6H6 and add to ethylene at room temp. 15 references.
