Abstract

The common placement of thermostats in offices might not reflect the actual thermal environment around occupants and influence the energy use. In this research, it is questioned which type of thermostat at which location better represents the conditions in the occupied zone and what is the effect on energy use. To answer this, simulations of indoor thermal environment, experiments in a climatic chamber and calculation of the energy use are performed for a two-person office room with a south orientated window. The results obtained allow to provide recommendations about the thermostat type and its placement in the office space.
