Historically, the realization of passive-matrix addressing was a crit. issue in the development of electrochromic displays. The authors report on electrochromic passive-matrix displays based on viologen-derivatized films of TiO2 nanoparticles. High and uniform contrast was obtained for lab. devices with few pixels.
