Dynamical photothermal response of optical whispering-gallery silica microresonators in helium-4 cryogenic environments

We present optical measurements of the photothermal response of a whispering-gallery silica microresonator in a helium-4 exchange gas cryostat. Using transient-mode numerical simulations, we discuss the various heat propagation mechanisms. (C) 2011 Optical Society of America
