Iontophoretic delivery of 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) and a series of ALA esters into and through the skin

Iontophoretic delivery of a homologous series of cationic ALA esters, into and through the skin, has been detd. and compared to that of the zwitterionic parent drug. The roles of electrorepulsion and electroosmosis have been deduced.
