Fabrication of mode field converter in H2-loaded SMF-28e using CW-Ar+ laser

Abstract
We report on mode field diameter changes of -31% due to UV-induced core refractive index changes of <= 10(-2) in SMF-28e leading to a loss reduction of 0.83 dB between SMF-28e and a dispersion compensating fiber.
