Abstract

The bus priority strategies at traffic signals for Transport for London (TfL) was investigated. It was shown that new automatic vehicle location (AVL) technologies are providing more sophisticated forms of priority, where bus specific levels of priority can be awarded according to real time need. A diverse range of overall system architectures for delivering AVL-base bus priority was also found. Better guidelines were suggested on requirements and system specifications to help Local Authority and bus operator decision-making.
