Analytical Determination of the Phase Inductances of a Brushless DC Motor With Faulhaber Winding

Abstract
This paper presents a method to analytically model the self and mutual phase inductances of a brushless dc motor with a Faulhaber winding. The method of images is used to “remove” the motor iron parts in the model in order to analyze the winding completely in the air. The analytical model is verified using 3-D finite-element method simulations and measurements.
