Abstract

Chevroulet's research focuses on the interface between transportation, environment, and energy. He is investigating how assessment and forecasting methods may be used to improve project design. In his talk, he looks at ways to connect assessment and forecast in project design. Assessment methods and forecasting techniques were once considered specific domains in project design, with specialists producing precise results in each field. This meant the exchange of results between specialists of each field, and little more, despite overlapping work on many aspects. Chevroulet's work proposes using the results of sustainability assessment of project alternatives for forecasting the project's implementation process, thus improving design at early stages by highlighting how the project's main flaws impact on realization time. The methodology has been used in Switzerland and should help designing stations of California's future high-speed rail system.
