Human Needs based innovation for flourishing lives on a flourishing planet
We propose a framework for enabling flourishing lives on a flourishing planet by grounding wellbeing in universal human needs and resilient ecosystems. Drawing on Doyal–Gough and Max-Neef, it argues that meeting needs within planetary limits requires rapid reductions in energy and material use and a profound reinvention of economic activity toward participatory, community-led, wellbeing-oriented models. We illustrate this through an emerging vision for Switzerland-wide democratic transformation toward functional, resilient 8-minute neighborhoods, integrating human-needs-based design, visualizations of urban retrofits, and scalable community deliberation supported by enabling technologies.
