The purpose of the research was to find a simple synthesis with high nuclearity cluster-based compds. The two compds. that the research research was focused on are Cs5V14O42As8Cl (V14Cl) and Cs11Na3V15O36Cl6 (V15Cl). V14Cl and V15Cl were prepd. in a nitrogen-purged dry box, sealed under vacuum, and heated in a furnace for multiple days. The purity of the reactions was analyzed by powder diffraction. The products were then dissolved in water with other salts and put under a vacuum at multiple temps. The resulting crystals were then identified with single crystal diffraction and elemental anal. was done with energy dispersive x-ray.
