Stress concentration in sparse lattice structures

Ravot, Bastien
January 22, 2020

This report presents numerical results obtained through MATLAB simulations aiming at characterising the singularity of the stresses at a crack tip in a sparse, regular, linear elastic structure. The simulation algorithm is explained and validated by the recovery of the square-root singularity predicted by the LEFM theory for some lattices that can be seen as discrete models of a linear elastic isotropic material. Deviations from this theory are noted for more complex lattices
