Environmental Sensitivity and Interspecies Coexistence in Urban Design: A Qualitative Study on Perceptions and Adaptations in Onex, Switzerland
This article presents a qualitative analysis based on data collected during the project "L'étendue sauvage. remarquer le monde qui nous échappe," conducted in Onex, Switzerland, in the summer of 2022. Through 50 semi-structured interviews and interactive maps, the study explored residents' environmental sensitivity and ability to adapt to new eco-social realities. The first part, "The Perception of Wildlife," revealed a greater openness to integrating non-human agents into urban design, surpassing initial expectations. The second part, "The Emotion of Events," examined recent environmental changes, such as rising temperatures and reduced snowfall, highlighting residents' concerns about adaptation. The study underscores the importance of integrating non-human agents into urban planning and fostering collective awareness in response to environmental challenges.
