Reinforced and Post-tensioned Glass Beams

Glass Performance Days 2013

This paper investigates the structural performance of reinforced and post-tensioned glass beams. This is done through bending tests on 1.5 m reinforced, post-tensioned and reference glass beam specimens. From the results it is observed that both reinforcing and post-tensioning are feasible concepts which provide the glass beam with significant residual load-carrying capacity. Furthermore, post-tensioning significantly enhances the initial failure strength of the glass beams. Future studies will focus in more depth on this promising concept of post-tensioning glass beams.
