Flexible Winding for a Rotating Motor

Bruelhart, M.
2012

The basic idea of the project (run in collaboration with a Swiss company) is to design a flexible winding, which will 'replace' the classical slotless BLDC motor winding. The new winding should be thermally and mechanically improved compared to the classical one. It will physically consist of a flexible insulating substrate, upon which phase conductors will be deposited in the form of a conducting layer. A third insulating layer might be used to cover the conductors. The goal of the student project is to investigate all modern flexible materials at the market, to deposit the conductive layer of various thicknesses and patterns (with or without the third layer) and make experiments, and to finally choose the best material from the thermal and mechanical point of view.
