Murcia: Crossing Emergencies
'Murcia. Crossing Emergencies' is an essayistic teaser crafted through the composition of video fragments. This immersive ethnographic exploration delves into the huerta of Murcia, a historically rich and ecologically complex landscape in southern Spain. Employing an embodied approach and a diffractive methodology, the essay weaves together stories of bodies and events that continuously shape and transform this territory.
The composition intertwines narratives of various events labeled as catastrophic in recent years, exposing their entangled, viscous relationality through bodies subjected to control. Landscape elements—irrigation channels, the river, ramblas, and the salted lagoon—converge with environmental disruptions such as floods, ecological collapses, and earthquakes, revealing their agency within this intricate socio-environmental fabric.
Through the process of re-composition, the work traces the link between the degradation of the territory and the technocratic mechanisms that govern contemporary emergency responses, offering a critical reflection on their impact and limitations.
