Electrochimica Acta

It is confirmed that Ag(I) is a very effective catalyst for the oxidn. of Mn(II) to permanganate. At anodic potentials below + 1300 mV (vs. Hg/Hg2SO4.K2SO4 ref. electrode) in 30% H2SO4 at 10 Deg, the current efficiency of permanganate formation is high; above 1300 mV AgO is deposited at the anode and the current efficiency of permanganate decreases due to the side reaction of oxygen evolution.
