The invention relates to formulations for water-insoluble active pharmaceutical ingredients. more particularly, the invention relates to a mucoadhesive patch consisting of a first layer consisting of a mucoadhesive film and a second layer consisting of a self-emulsifying drug delivery system (sedds) lipid microstructure for delivery of a poor water-soluble active pharmaceutical ingredient or a water insoluble active pharmaceutical ingredient.
